Being a Pioneer:

Hospital assistance was the predecessor of a series of public policies such as the right for a companion beside a child during its stay, the attention of the medical teams paid to abuse, establishing an assistance protocol and the formalization of reports, ensuring the right to education for the children in hospital, among others.

As time went by, the assisting units realized it was necessary to expand their actions beyond the walls of the institution. At the end of the 1990’s, a great action is begun to promote the multiplication of knowledge. And it is under this context that the Child Congress is created, taking place every five years and allowing health professionals to get in touch with the world’s most important specialists in pediatrics; the Life Project, which aims at reducing the child-adolescent mortality rate owing to cancer through early diagnosis and treatment; the Cystic Fibrosis Campaign which aims at identifying patients with this illness with a view to an early, adequate treatment and their integration in society; the World Health Day project which promotes preventive actions and health, aligned with the theme determined by WHO, among others.
