The Pequeno Príncipe Complex: a story of love for children

The Pequeno Príncipe Complex started its operation in 1919 and has been active in the hospital assistance, teaching and research areas. It is made up of Hospital de Crianças César Pernetta (The César Pernetta Children’s Hospital), The Pequeno Príncipe Hospital, The Pequeno Príncipe institute of Superior Studies (IESPP) and the Pelé Pequeno Príncipe Institute – Research on the Health of Children and Adolescents (IPP). Its keeper, the Associação Hospitalar de Proteção à Infância Dr. Raul Carneiro (Hospital Association for the Protection of Childhood Dr. Raul Carneiro), is a philanthropic association founded in 1956.

From the beginning of its operation, the complex bases its performance on the search for technical-scientific efficiency and the turning of assistance into something more humane.

The Association’s Mission:

To protect the child and adolescent by means of assistance, teaching, research on health and social awareness, strengthening the family nucleus.

Performance Regarding Assistance

The Complex destines approximately 70%, in its two hospitals – Pequeno Príncipe and César Pernetta, of its working capacity to the tending to patients using the national health service (SUS), offering from ER consultations to more complex treatments such as kidney, liver, heart and bone transplants, as well as oncology, orthopedic and heart treatments.

About 800 children are assisted daily in the hospital units, which offer multidisciplinary teams to promote the integral assistance to the child and its family.
