The King of soccer, Pelé, is turning his goals into life through a social responsibility project launched on december 5th, at Daslu Store, in São Paulo. Named "Goals for Life", the program will make available to the public 1.283 medals, one for each goal scored by the player during his career. The medals were coined by the Brazilian Mint in Gold, Silver and Bronze versions. The golden medals are being sold for R$ 3.000,00, the silver ones for R$ 1.500,00 and the bronze ones for R$ 700,00. All the proceeds will be addressed to The Little Prince Complex.
The Little Prince Complex acts in the areas of health assistance, teaching and research. In its two hospitals - César Pernetta and Pequeno Príncipe - more than 250 thousand children are assisted every year, finding from appointments to high complex treatments, such as kidney, liver, heart and bones transplants. The health assistance is provided since 1919. The research was formalized in 2005, with the support of Pelé, and has its purposes to improve the cure rates os complex diseases of children and adolescents, that nowadays still show limitted diagnosis and teatment.
"To make research in Brazil is a big challenge, due to the lack of resources. Being able to count on Pelé's support, however, brings us the opportunity of raising funds national and internationally for the cause of childrens health", explains the Goals for Life Program Coordinator, José Álvaro Carneiro. "The researches developed at the Institute has a direct application on the improvement of the quality f life of children assisted at the assistential units, says Carneiro. One of the examples is the research called Adrenal Cortex Cancer that is screening the newborns of Paraná State with some genetic mutation, that can develop a certain kind of cancer.
The selling of the medals is, in fact, the first project of the Goals for Life, that for a 10 year period will make available to the public products and other support opportunities as well as fundraising for the researches related to the children.
The stamp "Goals for Life" was created by Aktuell p.s.v.a, agency with big marketing expertise, that adds to the project the concept: "Pelé's goals have enchanted the world. Now they are going to save lives".
In order to potentialize even more the action, a videoclip was developed with the soundtrack signed by Pelé. The movie shows a mix of images of Pelé's career, of the coining process and of the visits he made to Little Prince, as well as a testimonial of Pelé himself talking about the Institute and the importance of this fundraising. The DVD will be sent to 15 thousand people, including personalities and the "soccer family". In the movie Pelé invites the people to buy the medals and score their own Goal for Life.
After the "Goals for Life" presentation in Brazil, Pelé will take his initiative to the world. On deceber 19th, the "Goals for Life"will be launched at the Brazilian Embassy, in London (England).
In March 2008, 10 lotsof medals will be auctioned in the prestigious Christie's, in Dubai.
