And since “once a King, always a King”, Pelé went beyond his achievements on the soccer field. On the most important day of his career, when he scored his 1000th goal, he was sensitive enough to call the world’s attention to a pressing social problem: the lack of care towards children and adolescents.

The ideals and the constant concern with the welfare of children and adolescents enabled the approach between Pelé and the Pequeno Príncipe Complex.

Edson Arantes do Nascimento lends his name to the research institute as he believes in the capacity of the Complex to make great dreams come true. The Complex, which works with assistance, teaching and research, has a history of quality assistance to the community of more than 86 years.

Pelé dedicated his most important goal to the Brazilian children and made his wish to work for them public. He envisaged, in Pequeno Príncipe’s initiative, a great opportunity to make his dream come true and turn it into and effective and continued action in favor of the life and health of the Brazilian children.

"I only play for a winning team. I am proud to be part of this team", he said to the reporters during the press conference which marked the launching of the Institute.

Pelé together with Prime Licensing and Participations LTD, who is the owner of the Pelé trademark, are giving the prestige acquired throughout the career of the “Athlete of the Century” to the Research Institute as they believe in the capacity of the Brazilian teams to develop research and find alternatives that contribute to the reduction of child mortality rates.

The Pequeno Príncipe believes that with the support of Pelé’s image, it will be strengthened to articulate the capturing of resources which will make the development of the works feasible.
